EPFO Claim Status: How to Check, Understand Status and Fix Delays

EPFO Claim Status Explained

Submitted a PF claim and want to know what is happening?

You can check your EPFO claim status online through the UAN Member Portal, the EPFO Passbook and Claim Status portal, or the UMANG app. The status may show that your claim has been submitted, is under process, has been settled or has been rejected.

The important part is not merely finding the status. You also need to understand what it means and what to do next.

This guide explains how to track different types of EPF claims, what common status messages mean, how long a claim may take, and what to do if the amount is delayed, rejected or not credited after settlement.

EPFO claim status: Quick answer

Status wording can differ between EPFO services. Treat the explanation above as a practical guide, not as a substitute for the exact remark displayed against your claim.

What can you track through EPFO claim status?

The claim-status facility may show claims related to:

  • Form 19: final EPF settlement
  • Form 10C: pension withdrawal benefit or scheme certificate
  • Form 31: advance or partial withdrawal from the EPF account
  • Form 13: transfer of an EPF balance from an old Member ID to a new one
  • Pension, death and insurance claims: where the applicable claim has been submitted and entered into EPFO’s system

The exact details shown depend on the claim type and how it was submitted. An online claim is normally easier to track through the UAN-linked services. An offline or older claim may require the PF account number, acknowledgement details or help from the concerned EPFO office.

Keep these details ready before checking

You may need some or all of the following:

  • Universal Account Number (UAN)
  • Password for the UAN Member Portal
  • Mobile number linked to the UAN
  • Claim ID or acknowledgement number
  • EPF Member ID or PF account number
  • Claim-submission date
  • Bank account linked with the UAN

Do not post these details publicly or share your password, OTP, Aadhaar number or full bank details with anyone claiming to track the claim for you.

If you have forgotten or do not know your UAN, read our guide on how to get your UAN number.

How to check EPFO claim status on the UAN Member Portal

For a claim submitted online, the UAN Member Portal is usually the most direct method.

  1. Open the official EPFO Member Portal.
  2. Enter your UAN, password and the security code.
  3. Complete any verification requested by the portal.
  4. Open Online Services.
  5. Select Track Claim Status, or the current option that displays online claims.
  6. Review the claim type, submission date and latest status.

Menu names can change when the portal is updated. Use only a website ending in epfindia.gov.in and do not sign in through a link sent by an unknown person.

If you cannot log in

Check whether:

  • The UAN is activated
  • You are using the correct UAN and password
  • Your registered mobile number is active
  • The portal is temporarily unavailable
  • Your browser is blocking a required script or captcha

Use the official password-reset option if necessary. Do not pay an agent to reset a password or check a claim.

How to check through the Passbook and Claim Status portal

EPFO also provides a dedicated Member Passbook and Claim Status portal.

  1. Open the official portal.
  2. Sign in with your UAN and password.
  3. Select the relevant Member ID if more than one is shown.
  4. Open the claims or claim-status section.
  5. Check the available claim record and status.

The passbook can help you understand the account balance and contribution history, while the claim section shows the processing stage. A balance displayed in the passbook is not proof that a particular withdrawal claim has been approved.

For help reading your PF balance, see our separate PF balance check guide.

How to track an EPFO claim in the UMANG app

UMANG is useful when you want to check the status from a phone.

  1. Download or open the official UMANG app.
  2. Search for EPFO.
  3. Open Employee Centric Services.
  4. Choose the option for tracking a claim.
  5. Enter your UAN if requested.
  6. Verify the request using the OTP sent to the registered mobile number.
  7. View the claims linked to the account.

The labels and screen order may change with app updates. Download UMANG only from an official app store and check that it is published by the Government of India.

Can you check PF claim status without a UAN?

For current online claims, a UAN is normally the simplest way to check the status. If you do not have access to it, try these options:

  • Find the UAN on your salary slip or ask your employer
  • Use EPFO’s official UAN-recovery service
  • Check an offline claim using the acknowledgement or PF account details, where the relevant facility is available
  • Contact the concerned EPFO office for an older or manual claim
  • Ask the employer or exempted PF trust if the establishment manages its own provident fund

Do not enter your PF number or Aadhaar details on an unofficial claim-tracking website.

EPFO claim status meanings

Claim submitted at portal

This generally means the claim has been recorded in the online system. It does not mean that the claim has been approved.

Save a screenshot or acknowledgement containing the claim ID and submission date. This will be useful if you later need to raise a grievance.

Under process

This means EPFO is still processing the claim. The office may be checking eligibility, service history, KYC, bank details, the requested amount or other account information.

An under-process status is not the same as rejection. Avoid submitting the same claim repeatedly while the first one is active, unless EPFO specifically asks you to do so.

Approved

An approved status generally indicates that the required checks have been completed successfully. Payment may still need to be initiated or reflected in the bank account.

Continue checking the claim record and the bank account linked with the UAN.

Payment sent through NEFT

This usually means the payment instruction has moved to the banking stage. Check the linked account rather than an unrelated account you may currently use.

Keep the payment reference or settlement details if they are displayed. They can help your bank trace the transaction.

Claim settled

Settled normally means EPFO has completed the claim at its end. The bank credit may not appear at the exact moment the portal changes to settled.

Check the linked bank statement for the days around the settlement date. If the credit does not arrive after a reasonable banking period, follow the steps in the section below.

Claim rejected or returned

The claim was not accepted in its present form. The rejection message or remark is more important than the word rejected because it tells you what may need to be corrected.

Do not immediately submit an identical claim. Correct the underlying issue first, then apply again if you remain eligible.

Status not available or no record found

This may happen when:

  • The claim has only recently been submitted
  • Incorrect UAN, Member ID or claim details were entered
  • An older or offline claim has not been mapped in the same system
  • The portal is experiencing a temporary problem
  • The claim belongs to another Member ID under the UAN
  • The establishment operates an exempted PF trust

Try both the Member Portal and UMANG, confirm the claim acknowledgement, and check again later. Raise a grievance if the record remains missing despite a valid acknowledgement.

How long does an EPFO claim take?

EPFO’s Citizen Charter lists a 20-day scheme time limit for several common claims, including Forms 19, 31, 13, 10C, 10D, 20 and 5IF. This applies to claims that are complete in all respects.

The same charter sets shorter aspirational service targets for many claims, but these are service goals rather than a guarantee that every case will finish within that period.

EPFO has also expanded automatic settlement for eligible advance claims. According to an official June 2025 update, eligible advance claims of up to ₹5 lakh for specified purposes may be processed through the auto-settlement system within about three days. Not every withdrawal qualifies for automatic settlement.

Actual time can vary because of:

  • Incomplete or inconsistent member records
  • Eligibility checks for the claim type
  • Multiple Member IDs or employment-history issues
  • Bank-account validation or a failed bank credit
  • A pending transfer or another active claim
  • Manual verification by the EPFO office
  • Technical interruptions or unusually high workload

Count from the date on which EPFO received a complete claim, not from the date you first started filling in the form.

What to do if your PF claim is under process for too long

Use this order so that you do not create unnecessary duplicate claims:

  1. Check the submission date. Compare it with the official processing period.
  2. Read the complete status. Look for a remark, payment update or request for correction.
  3. Verify your profile. Check the name, date of birth, service history, date of exit and Member ID.
  4. Check KYC and bank details. Confirm that the linked bank account is active and the account number and IFSC are correct.
  5. Check for another pending claim. A duplicate or overlapping request may cause difficulty.
  6. Save evidence. Keep the claim ID, screenshot and submission acknowledgement.
  7. Raise an EPFiGMS grievance. Do this when a complete claim exceeds the official period or the status is not moving without explanation.

Calling or visiting immediately after submission is unlikely to speed up a claim that is still within the normal processing period.

PF claim settled but amount not credited: What to do

If the portal says settled but the money is missing, check the following before filing a complaint:

  1. Confirm the settlement date and amount shown in the claim record.
  2. Check the bank account linked with the UAN, not only your primary banking app.
  3. Download or review the detailed bank statement around the settlement date.
  4. Confirm that the linked account is active and can receive credits.
  5. Check whether the account number or IFSC was changed, merged or made inactive.
  6. Note any NEFT or payment reference displayed by EPFO.
  7. Ask the bank to trace the incoming payment if a reference is available.
  8. Raise an EPFiGMS grievance if the payment remains missing after a reasonable banking period.

Attach the settlement screenshot and a bank statement that shows the relevant period. Hide unrelated transactions and unnecessary sensitive information where possible.

If the payment was returned because the bank details were invalid or the account was closed, EPFO may need to reprocess it after the details are corrected. Follow the instruction provided by EPFO instead of filing a fresh withdrawal blindly.

Common PF claim rejection reasons and fixes

The table below lists common possibilities. Always give priority to the exact rejection remark on your own claim.

Possible reasonWhat to checkPractical next step
Name or personal details do not matchCompare EPFO records with Aadhaar and PANCorrect the relevant profile or KYC record before reapplying
Bank account or IFSC problemCheck account number, IFSC, account status and account holderUpdate or validate the bank details through the official process
Date of exit is missing or incorrectReview employment and service historyAsk the employer or use the permitted correction process
Insufficient balanceCheck the passbook and claim amountSubmit only an eligible amount for the permitted purpose
Claim type or reason is not eligibleReview the conditions for Form 19, 10C or 31Choose the correct claim only if the conditions are met
Another claim is pendingCheck all recent claims under the UANWait for or resolve the active claim before resubmitting
Service records or Member IDs do not matchReview previous and current employment recordsCorrect or consolidate the records as instructed by EPFO
Transfer issueCheck whether the old balance has moved to the current Member IDResolve the transfer record before making a dependent claim
Technical or unexplained rejectionSave the remark and claim IDRaise a grievance for a specific explanation

Avoid using a guessed rejection reason. A correction that does not address the actual remark can lead to another rejection.

How to check an EPF transfer claim

An EPF transfer is different from withdrawing the balance. It moves the service and balance from an earlier Member ID to the current one.

To check a transfer:

  1. Sign in to the UAN Member Portal.
  2. Open the claim or transfer-status section.
  3. Select the relevant old and current Member IDs.
  4. Review whether the request is submitted, pending, accepted, rejected or completed.
  5. Check the passbook later to confirm that the transferred amount appears under the current Member ID.

A completed transfer status and an updated passbook may not appear at exactly the same time. If the transfer is marked complete but the balance remains missing for an unusual period, raise a grievance with both Member IDs and the transfer reference.

Why UMANG and the EPFO portal may show different statuses

Different official channels may refresh at different times. One may show the most recent processing stage before another has updated.

When the statuses conflict:

  • Check the timestamp or latest update date
  • Confirm that both services are displaying the same claim ID and Member ID
  • Take screenshots of both screens
  • Check again after a short interval
  • Use EPFiGMS if the difference continues or affects a payment

Do not submit a duplicate claim merely because one channel updates more slowly.

How to raise an EPFO grievance for a delayed claim

Use the official EPFiGMS grievance portal when a claim has exceeded the applicable period, a settled payment has not reached the bank, or the displayed reason does not help you resolve the problem.

Keep this evidence ready

  • UAN and relevant Member ID
  • Claim ID or acknowledgement number
  • Claim type and submission date
  • Screenshot of the latest status
  • Rejection remark, if applicable
  • Settlement date and payment reference, if displayed
  • Bank statement for a missing credit
  • A short explanation of the problem and the action requested

Steps to register the grievance

  1. Open EPFiGMS and select Register Grievance.
  2. Choose the appropriate category, such as PF member or pensioner.
  3. Verify your identity using the requested details and OTP.
  4. Select the relevant PF number or Member ID.
  5. Choose the claim-related grievance category.
  6. Describe the issue with dates, claim ID and the exact outcome you need.
  7. Upload supporting documents where required.
  8. Submit the grievance and save the registration number.

You can use the registration number to check the grievance status or send a reminder through the portal. Keep the description factual and specific. For example:

Claim ID [reference] was submitted on [date] and has remained under process beyond the applicable period. Please confirm the pending issue or complete the claim.

Never publish the completed template online with your actual UAN, bank account or Aadhaar number.

Recent EPFO changes that older guides may miss

Some instructions found in older articles are no longer current.

  • EPFO removed the requirement to upload an image of a cheque leaf or attested bank passbook for online claims.
  • From April 2025, employer approval was removed from the process of seeding bank-account details with the UAN.
  • Eligible automatic advance-claim settlement was expanded up to ₹5 lakh for specified purposes.
  • EPFO says its online services, including claims, KYC updates and grievances, are free.

These changes do not mean that bank details or eligibility are ignored. The account still needs to be correct, and the claim must meet the applicable conditions.

Safety tips while tracking a PF claim

  • Use only EPFO, EPFiGMS and UMANG official services.
  • Do not pay anyone to approve or speed up a claim.
  • Never share your password or OTP.
  • Do not disclose your full UAN, Aadhaar, PAN or bank details in a public comment.
  • Do not install a screen-sharing app on a caller’s instructions.
  • Do not click claim-status links received from an unknown number.
  • Remember that a genuine EPFO service does not require you to transfer money to release your PF.

ZapCash cannot view, approve or speed up an EPFO claim. Only EPFO, the relevant employer or an exempted PF trust can act on the official record.

EPFO claim status FAQs

What is the official website for checking EPFO claim status?

Use the official UAN Member Portal or the EPFO Member Passbook and Claim Status portal. You can also track a claim through the official UMANG app.

Can I track a PF claim using my mobile number?

Your registered mobile number is used for OTP verification on services such as UMANG. A mobile number alone may not be enough; you may also need the UAN or other claim details.

Does EPFO send an SMS when a claim is settled?

EPFO may send status messages to the mobile number linked with the UAN. Do not rely only on an SMS—confirm the status through an official portal and check the linked bank account.

Why has my PF claim been under process for many days?

The claim may still be undergoing eligibility, service, KYC or bank checks. Check whether the official processing period has passed, verify the account information and raise an EPFiGMS grievance if the delay is unexplained.

Can I cancel a PF claim that is under process?

The online portal may not provide a general cancellation button for every claim. Do not file another claim to cancel the first one. Contact EPFO through an official grievance or help channel and explain the mistake with the claim ID.

Why was my PF claim rejected even though KYC is approved?

Approved KYC does not guarantee that every claim is eligible. A claim can still fail because of service data, date of exit, balance, claim type, duplicate request, bank status or another issue. Read the exact rejection remark.

Can I submit the claim again after rejection?

Usually, you can apply again if you are eligible and have corrected the stated problem. Resubmitting the same information without fixing the reason can lead to another rejection.

What does “claim settled” mean in EPFO?

It generally means EPFO has completed the claim at its end. Check the linked bank account for the credit. If the amount does not arrive after a reasonable banking period, use the payment details to follow up with the bank and EPFO.

Why does the passbook still show a balance after settlement?

The passbook and claim systems may update at different times. Also, the displayed balance can include contributions or components not fully withdrawn by that claim. Compare the claim type, settled amount and later passbook entries.

What should I do if EPFO claim status is not available?

Confirm the UAN, Member ID and claim acknowledgement, then try the Member Portal, passbook portal and UMANG. If a valid claim remains missing, register a grievance with the acknowledgement attached.

Is employer approval required for every online PF claim?

No. Many member services and online claims do not require the employer to approve the claim itself. However, incorrect or missing employment records may still need correction through the applicable process.

How can I contact EPFO about a claim?

Use EPFiGMS for a documented complaint. EPFO also lists the helpdesk number 14470 on its Member Portal. Verify the number on the official site before calling because contact details can change.

Final takeaway

The easiest way to check an EPFO claim status is through the UAN Member Portal, the Member Passbook and Claim Status portal, or UMANG.

After finding the status:

  • Wait if a complete claim is still within the normal processing period
  • Read the exact remark before correcting a rejected claim
  • Check the linked bank account if the claim is settled
  • Avoid submitting duplicate claims
  • Use EPFiGMS when a valid claim is delayed, missing or not credited

Keep the claim ID, dates and screenshots until the money is credited or the transfer appears in the correct passbook.
